(More customer reviews)I've had this pitcher for about 18 months. Everytime I replace the filter cartridge, I follow the directions about soaking the cartridge to no avail. So many granules come out during the soaking process. But, so many more come out once the cartridge is installed! Who wants black stuff in their water? I gave it a chance, through 5 cartridges. The water didn't taste much different, either. Time to try a different one.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that one tip of diverter valve that attaches to the faucet and diverts the water to the filter broke. I called the company and they were aware of the manufacture defect. They were very friendly and helpful. They put a whole new "diverter valve attachment" in the mail that same day.After changing out the part we have had no other problems at all after several months of substantial use.

(More customer reviews)If you EVER backpack where the water supply is silty (e.g. the Colorado River through Grand Canyon, the Paria River, etc.) this is absolutely the quickest (30 mins), lightest (a 0.14-oz. packet cleans 10 liters of water), most reliable (no filter to clog!!), and easiest way to get CLEAR, CLEAN drinking water.

I'm not kidding. I used this on a 5-day backpack in Grand Canyon National Park where our only source of drinking water was the totally silt-clogged Colorado River. This stuff gave us gallons of delicious, clear, totally safe drinking water. One day we had way more purified water than we needed, and actually gave several liters of our purified water to some other hikers whose pumps had all completely clogged up. It's truly amazing -- I can't believe more backpackers don't know about it.

And in case you don't trust it, it's used all over the world by government and humanitarian groups to clean and purify water in 3rd-world countries, where the water quality is basically like a sewer. This stuff makes any water safe to drink. You gotta try it!!

Once, long ago, PUR was a great company with great water filtering technology. I still love their filters! Unfortunately, a big bad company named Proctor and Gamble bought them and messed them over in favor of customer abuse. This was accomplished using two methods. The first method is called 'planned obsolescence' whereby their faucet mount apparatus leak and die briefly after the end of the warranty period. (It didn't used to be that way in the good old days). The second method is called 'timed death' whereby their apparatus lock up their enclosed filters at a preset volume of filtered water, whether the filter is actually used up or not.

Planned obsolescence can be overcome by calling up Proctor and Gamble BEFORE your warranty runs out, and letting them know that your PUR apparatus is squirting water all over your kitchen. Ask them to send you a replacement or a replacement certificate. If need be, call repeatedly asking to speak to the President of P&G, never taking 'no' for an answer. Then take your certificate and get another PUR apparatus. This will provide you with a lifetime for the apparatus more representative of the lifetime of original PUR apparatus. You've cheated no one. P&G's cheat on you has been overcome.

The timed death lockout of your filter is extremely easy to overcome. Pull out the filter from the apparatus. This resets the nasty timing device to zero again. Put your filter back in. TADA! You're done. Your filter will work as before. Note, however, that PUR filters do eventually get clogged with stuff. You'll know when to change it.

I hope that helps everyone restore goodness to the universe. I still love PUR filters better than any other brand and wouldn't be without them. It's P&G's customer abuse that's not worth liking. Shame on you P&G.

(More customer reviews)I suffered and struggled to make a decision on what type of "under the sink" water filtration system to buy. There are so may types, brands and configurations that I almost just stuck to bottled water. Boy am I glad I didn't. I purchased this unit and installed it myself in about 2 hours. The taste is great, the pressure is perfect and I'm saving the environment. I have yet to replace the filters...hoping that is a cheap and easy procedure but overall I am really happy with this unit.

Definitely glad I didn't go with a simple charcoal filter. Glad I didn't choose a reverse Osmosis unit which everyone says depletes the minerals in your body and happy I saved the money over a professionally installed system...
