Brita Pitcher - Pink Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I've had this pitcher for about 18 months. Everytime I replace the filter cartridge, I follow the directions about soaking the cartridge to no avail. So many granules come out during the soaking process. But, so many more come out once the cartridge is installed! Who wants black stuff in their water? I gave it a chance, through 5 cartridges. The water didn't taste much different, either. Time to try a different one.

ZeroWater ZM-016 Electronic Water Tester Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)The ZM-106 Zero Water Electronic Water Tester evaluated three sources of water inside and outside my house quickly and accurately. I heartily recommend this product. WGThompson MD

Product Description:
The independently made Tester displays the total dissolved solids (TDS) in water. With this water tester, you can now put a number on what your taste buds know: water tastes different from city to city and from brand to brand in bottled water. The reason for the different tastes is that what you usually drink is water (hydrogen and oxygen) and other dissolved substances. The tester will empower you to be able to evaluate the cleanliness of whatever water you're drinking; bottled, tap, filtered, etc. The best water will show a reading of 000. The number represents the amounts of detectable dissolved solids in parts per million that exist in your water sample. The meter is primarily used to indicate ZeroWater filter replacement at 006. It may also be used as a simple method to compare water quality by displaying the Total of the Dissolved Solids (TDS) in parts per million only. The meter does not specify what substances comprise the Total. The meter should not be used to assess the safety or purity of water, which should only be undertaken by a qualified laboratory.

Mavea 1001127 Marella Water Filtration Pitcher Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Recently I replaced my original PUR pitcher with this very attractive Mavea pitcher and I'm happy with it.The water tastes as good, if not a little better, than my PUR-filtered water.I have no way to run a scientific test on the two pitchers, just going by my taste buds, and that's what matters to me.
My city water comes from a reservoir that has an algae problem every summer, and this year it started earlier than normal; the chemicals used to treat the algae taste so bad I gag when brushing my teeth. This filter removes the bad taste, along with many other chemicals that are present in our water. It does NOT remove the fluoride though.
The pitcher is constructed similar to the PUR with the double chamber. This is the cheaper model of the Mavea pitchers, and this one has a timer on top; it keeps track of time only, not how many pitchers of water have been filtered through. To get a pitcher that keeps track of the amount of water filtered through, you would have to purchase the Elemaris model. In either pitcher model the battery lasts around 5 years according to the literature, but it's not replaceable, so the pitcher needs replaced every 5 years, if you want to continue to use the gauge.
I love the flip-up lid to refill the water; the only time you have to remove the entire lid is to replace the filter or wash out the pitcher.Initially the entire lid is hard to snap on to the pitcher, but with the tight fit that will mean that it won't come off when pouring.
This does fit inside my refrigerator door, but I have the extra large shelves that hold gallon jugs. Not so sure it will fit if you have smaller shelves in your door.
BPA-free plastic is used in all the parts of the pitcher, and Mavea also has a filter recycling program if you are into that. They will provide the postage to ship the filters back to them, but you have to wait until you accumulate 6 filters before returning.
You don't have to soak a new filter like you do with the PUR filters, but you need to run 2 pitchers of water through a new filter before drinking.I hope Amazon continues to stock the replacement filters as I know of no other place that sells them...hopefully, this brand of water pitcher will catch on and they will be easier to find in the future.

Product Description:
Offering an innovative, easy-fill design and 8-glass capacity, the Mavea 1001127 Marella Water Filtration Pitcher is as functional as it is stylish with its distinctive European design. This new generation of filtration pitcher also includes an electronic memo window on the lid to remind you to replace the filter cartridge. Designed for health as well as convenience, this German-made filtration system incorporates the highest quality materials, including BPA-free plastics.
Superior Filter Components for Great-Tasting Water
MAVEA water filter cartridges are certified--by WQA to NSF/ANSI 42 and 53--to significantly minimize chlorine taste and odor, as well as reduce water contaminants, such as heavy metals, agricultural chemicals, and industrial pollutants. MAVEA filtered water tastes fresh and clean, as water should. The filter media is treated with silver to discourage the growth of bacteria and maximize the filter's life. In addition, a micro-screen in the filter reduces the release of black carbon particles. No presoaking is required to activate the filter, which offers consistent flow and filtration throughout its 40-gallon lifespan.
Toast to Cleaner Water and a Greener Planet
The MAVEA Elemaris XL not only saves money and waste associated with buying bottled water, but this premium water filtration system is also 100% reusable. Americans send an estimated 38 billion water bottles to landfills each year. In comparison, each MAVEA water filter equals approximately 300 bottles of water--without the associated waste.MAVEA is the only water filter company that offers a comprehensive filter recycling program. Consumers can easily recycle used filters at recycling bins located in participating stores, or by sending them directly through the mail at MAVEA's expense. The company recycles the used filters at its facility, where the components are separated, cleaned, and reused in commercial non-food filter applications--you can be sure absolutely no parts will end up in a landfill.
What's in the Box

Brita 35548 Classic Pitcher Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I wanted a replacement for my old Brita pitcher and I wanted something simple, without the need for fancy-shmancy batteries/electronics - after all this is just a PITCHER!
This one was the one most similar to the one I had. However, unlike the one I had before, this one does not keep the lid on when there is water in the reservoir trickling through the filter. This means that you can't use the pitcher easily while it's refilling unless you remember to push the lid down with one hand while you pour with the other. Not doing so will result in a disastrous spill each time as the lid will slip off pouring water all over.
Not sure how/why, but the earlier version of this pitcher had a nicely designed fit that this would not happen. Had it been available, I would have purchased it.

Brita 42364 SpaceSaver Pitcher Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This might be piling on, but we have an obligation to the community: this pitcher is junk. The lid will not stay on. Never mind trying to pour with it, just carrying it to the refrigerator without the lid falling off is a challenge. It should go without saying that Brita should be able to filter water. That's what the company does. The water is great. It will save us a bunch of money. It's the right thing to do for the environment. But come on, Brita. You're based in Oakland, CA. Get some of those smart people from Cal or Stanford to work on your design or QA or something. Manufacturing somewhere that you lost track of?
Made a video to show what I mean.

ZeroWater ZD-003 Decanter, Glass Carafe Dispenser Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)My daughter recommended this water system;we tried it her home in Chicago and got one for ourselves.
At first no matter what I did it never was reading "0"...I was still using it with a reading of 7 or 9 ;instead of 39 from the water directly from the tap.
Then my husband checked the system as I was pouring water in the top and realised that the little nipple between the 2 filter heads was leacking into the reservoir chamber. We took it apart and looked at it closely to discover that the plastic bump was cut of and the untreated water was going through a pin size hole where the plastic was broken.I placed a little crazy glue in the hole ; waited 2 days and put the system back together...it has been reading zero from that day on!!! It is a good system but they may not test the pieces before they are sent out.Same when I ordered replacement filters...one had a missing rubber gasket;so I used one from the old filter...with the price of the system it should not happen this often to one costumer...but we still love it;the water has no taste and that is wonderful!

Brita 35378 Grand Green Pitcher Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)The BRITA GREEN WATER PITCHER is really nice looking and comes with an automatic "change filter" reminder.
I was a little hesitant in buying it after reading some of the reviews here on Amazon, but when Target had a sale I caved in. My old one was probably one of the first ones to come off the assembly line and was so old that the pitcher was fogged up from hard water stains and the lid spout broke off. So it was time for a new one.
Basically this BRITA GREEN is like the older one: you soak the filter in water first, then place it in the holder and then add water to the reservoir. The water filters through and ends up in the pitcher. Clean tasting drinking water right from the tap! One note though: the water has to be SAFE to drink in the first place because the PITCHER will not filter out contamination or organisms that can cause sickness (it's in the fine print).
Anyway, like most reviewers have pointed out the BRITA GREEN PITCHER will leak water from the top if you over fill the reservoir. If the pitcher is full, DO NOT fill the reservoir past the halfway point and then it won't leak. My old one never had this problem; I could top it off with water even when the pitcher was full and it never leaked, so I think that's why most people had this problem and thought it was a defect. I guess it's in the design change, which is so subtle that I can't tell what's different, but it will definitely spill out if you over fill.
The other thing I noticed was it seemed to pour a lot slower than my old one. Water wouldn't pour with much pressure, which I found odd, but I found a fix. If you angle the pitcher just slightly to the opposite side of your pouring hand and then tilt it forward the water comes out fast, like it should, rather than if you just pour with the front-to-back tilt. Since I hold the pitcher with my right hand, I angle it slightly to its left side and it pours like a charm! This is another thing that didn't happen with my old one so clearly there was some design tweaking that changed the function of the pitcher.
And as far as the charcoal or whatever that black stuff is in the filter coming out into the water that will happen if you over fill it. But the instructions recommend to fill the pitcher once and then throw out or save the filtered water for some other use and then re-fill it whenever you start a new filter and don't over fill it. I don't remember doing that with my older one, either, but even if that stuff gets into the pitcher it usually settles at the bottom and you won't be drinking it in. Whenever I change the filter, I slowly pour the remaining filtered water into a large bowl but throw out the water at the bottom and wash the pitcher etc.
The gadget that tells you when to change the filter is easy to set, you just hold down the buttons for a few seconds to reset it. The bars will go down as the weeks go by, and when you have no bars it's time to change the filter. It's located on the lid and once it dies it can't be replaced and the battery can't be changed, but it doesn't interfere with the functioning of the pitcher.
Anyway, I think it's more economical to buy one of these pitchers--even though the filters are expensive--because you'll save money in the long run when you don't have to keep buying bottled water from the store, not to mention carrying those heavy bottles.
