Watts Premier 173006 All-In-One Water Test Kit Review

Watts Premier 173006 All-In-One Water Test Kit

I drink about a gallon of NYC tap water per day.I'm very water savvy as I keep water sensitive fish and plants.I found this test kit to be a good all in one solution. This is by no means an accurate test to give exact measurements - think of it more as a pass/fail test kit. so if something fails, you may need to test it further with a more accurate test specific kit, or at least know to buy a filter for that issue, but for most people the wider milestones of this kit should be fine.I found the Lead and Pesticide kit instructions to be confusing, but after rereading it a few more times I figured it out.it's good to have an 8oz glass handy to carry out most of these tests accurately.in the end, this kit paid for itself, as I now see my only water concern remain with the city added chlorine, chloride and chloramines(not tested here).this means I can now focus on only those media feature issues when choosing a water filtration system.I was impressed this kit has "good till use date" stamped on every one of the 15 different tests - you rarely see that. This is a good value since sending your water sample out to be more accurately tested by a Lab can be a $100-$300 expense.

Intellitec WPT1000 Digital Water Purity Tester Review

Intellitec WPT1000 Digital Water Purity Tester
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Dunk this device into water and a number will appear on the display. The bigger the number, the less pure the water is.That is the use of this product, hence my saying it is not useful for any purpose.

As mentioned by another reviewer, this tester does NOT indicate water safety.

This tester is not a TDS meter. The number displayed has no particular relation to TDS (Total Dissolved Solids, parts per million). Nor is the unit able to be calibrated. As such it is not a TDS meter. To the manufacturer's credit, they don't claim that it is. (But another reviewer does).

My hope was that I could use this unit to determine when to change a RO membrane, even though I knew the reading was not correct TDS--thinking that the ratio between input and output water would be correct, even if the individual measurements weren't.Not so, as the relationship between the reading and TDS is not linear. I have this unit now HM Digital Pocket Size TDS Meter TDS-4 Water Quality Tester and it works great.

The ZM-106 Zero Water Electronic Water Tester evaluated three sources of water inside and outside my house quickly and accurately. I heartily recommend this product. WGThompson MD

Product Description:
The independently made Tester displays the total dissolved solids (TDS) in water. With this water tester, you can now put a number on what your taste buds know: water tastes different from city to city and from brand to brand in bottled water. The reason for the different tastes is that what you usually drink is water (hydrogen and oxygen) and other dissolved substances. The tester will empower you to be able to evaluate the cleanliness of whatever water you're drinking; bottled, tap, filtered, etc. The best water will show a reading of 000. The number represents the amounts of detectable dissolved solids in parts per million that exist in your water sample. The meter is primarily used to indicate ZeroWater filter replacement at 006. It may also be used as a simple method to compare water quality by displaying the Total of the Dissolved Solids (TDS) in parts per million only. The meter does not specify what substances comprise the Total. The meter should not be used to assess the safety or purity of water, which should only be undertaken by a qualified laboratory.

I bought this kit as well as First Alert WT1 Drinking Water Test Kit.Both from Amazon.com, thinking I would try two different kinds just to be sure. When I opened the packages. The exact same contents were inside, right down the the instruction booklet. They are made by the same company and put in different boxes. However, The First Alert WT1 Drinking Water Test Kit is only $12.99.

Watersafe WS425W Well Water Test Kit Review

Watersafe WS425W Well Water Test Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have well water which we had tested by a local lab a year or two ago.I like to have the water tested regularly, mainly for bacteria, but the local lab charges $100 (if we want lead testing included, it's $200).I ordered this test kit thinking that I'd compare it to the results we got from the lab when we last had our water tested. If anything looked weird or came back abnormal, we'd pay the local lab to test the water.

The tests that I've done so far have given results that are in line with what we were expecting. The local lab gives some directions that I followed when pulling my water samples. They include the following:

1) Use cold water only.
2) For the bacteria test: let your water run for 5 minutes before you take a sample.Don't take a sample from a swivel faucet (commonly found in kitchens). They told me that it's best to take the water sample from the bathroom faucet or tub.
3) For the lead test: Take your sample at a point where the water has been sitting in the pipes for at least 6 hours. They recommended first thing in the morning, before flushing the toilets, etc.

The instructions included with the test kit were fine, but I would have appreciated something a bit more in depth, like those provided by our local lab.Still, this test is a fraction of what the local lab charges, and at least from what I can see, it appears to be fairly accurate.
